Over this past weekend September 29th and 30th The American Kennel Club hosted its annual "Meet the Breed" event at New York City's Jacob javits Convention Center. I went on Sunday to assist my wife who is into this as I am into audio and music.

More than 175 breeds were represented. I took some GoPro Videos and posted some of what I shot on YouTube. Okay this is not "on subject" but if you're interested in dogs, you might find it enjoyable and I promise at the end there are two music and audio related sequences.

...Mikey?  Just yesterday, after reading more emotionally charged comments on various audiophile websites (yeah, I know, I should stop commenting myself and get out more often) it occurred to me that us commentors can be like dogs howling at the moon.  We all think: our howl is beautiful; why won't the moon respond; and, would the other dogs just please shut up.  At least the dogs at the show were well behaved.

 Dogs howl as a way of connecting with their community.  It comes from their ancestors, the wolves.

I always wanted a "His Masters Voice" dog. Ceramic would be fine.

My wife who is the expert in such things says that dog is not a specific breed but probably a mix, or based upon someone's imagination....

Wifey says "no!" The Amstaff in the video is closely related to the Pit Bull. You can see it doesn't really look like the HMV dog.

I looked on wikipedia. They have a pretty good write up about him. He was called nipper because he would bite the backs of people's legs. It is said on there that it has been claimed from several sources that he is a mix of Jack Russell, fox terrier and bull terrier.

Thanks Michael for that fun trip to Dog Town. I can't think of a better way to spend my time, with some records and my best canine friend.

Do you see the smiles on everyone's face? I volunteer at an animal shelter. It makes it a little more difficult to focus on the negativity and the problems in our lives when we are around these animals. There's just such an innocence about them. I wonder if we could put some of them in the capital building in Washington then some of that bunch might get in a better mood and get something accomplished.

I can tie dogs and audio together. Whenever I make a move towards my audio room, my two cardigan corgies rush in to join me. If left out, they will sit right by the door, sulking. So there we all sit, listening to vinyl. Of course, they must be enjoying the music with those gigantic ears!

The photo heading this story is one of our two Cardigan Welsh Corgis. What a great breed! My wife is active on the national club's board of directors. People who think audiophiles are crazy should look at the dog world....

That's a good looking corgi.

I am always amazed at how mine can sleep right in front of the speakers even when I am rocking out.

My wife just put a deposit down on a German Shepherd puppy that costs 1.5 times a VPI Traveler.  This will be our third Germen Shepherd. We just lost our 2nd German Shepherd after spending 5 times the cost of the Traveler trying to save him. I'm gonna have to settle for the Pro-ject Debut Carbon.  But I really miss the dog I just lost. He was worth every penny.
