Pro-Ject Debut PRO B Turntable

We loved it when Pro-Ject debuted their commemorative Debut PRO turntable three years ago in conjunction with the company’s 30th anniversary, and we love it that they’ve just introduced the upgraded version of that very cool table, the Debut PRO B.

Let’s begin by looking at the Debut PRO B’s tonearm, which features Pro-Ject’s carbon-aluminum one-piece tonearm technology. The 8.6in tube is said to utilize the “lightweight, sturdy characteristics” of carbon fiber, as combined with aluminium for its added damping properties and better electrical shielding, resulting in “improved resistance to external interferences.”

The Debut PRO B tonearm also offers adjustable azimuth and VTA (vertical tracking angle) settings for those inclined to do so.

The arm is supplied with Pro-Ject’s new Pick it PRO Balanced moving magnet (MM) cartridge, pre-installed and aligned. Pro-Ject worked with Ortofon to develop the Pick it PRO, which is the first MM cart from Pro-Ject that’s capable of supporting a True Balanced audio signal to compliant phono preamps. (As a standalone, the Pick It PRO cart sports an SRP of £199.)

Other features of the belt-drive Debut PRO B table include an electronic speed change rocker switch for 33, 45, and 78rpm playback, standard flat belt for 33 and 45rpm playback, round belt for 78rpm playback that will require manual adjustment, 7in single adapter, magnetic aluminium 300mm die-cast platter with TPE damping and felt mat, high-precision stainless-steel main bearing axle in bronze bushing, motor suspension with “better” damping, eight-layer hand-painted MDF chassis in satin black finish (Pro-Ject notes that a satin white finish option is also available), height-adjustable metal feet, 15V DC/0.8A power supply, premium semi-symmetrical Connect it E phono cable, the aforementioned gold-plated RCA output connectors and MiniXLR balanced output, and a dust cover.

Additional specs for the Debut PRO B table include wow & flutter as ±0.16% (for 33rpm) and ±0.14% (45rpm), speed drift of ±0.40% (33rpm) and ±0.50% (45rpm), signal-to-noise ratio as 68dB, effective arm length as 218.5mm (mass) / 10.0g, overhang as 18.5mm, power consumption as 4W/0W standby, dimensions as 415 x 113 x 320mm (w/h/d), and weight as 6.0kg (net).

I have both the original Pro-ject Debut and the Rega P1. I love them both for their build quality and sound. I use them on a couple of secondary systems I have. I believe its really important to make high quality and affordable turntables and am glad that Pro-ject is committed to that market segment.

This table looks quite solid and promising given it's made by Project.
