We've not yet heard any of Rhino's recent Tom Waits 180 gram vinyl reissues  EQ'd by Gavin Lurssen at Lurssen Mastering  and cut by Ron McMaster at Capitol Studios but the feedback we've gotten from a few readers was not good. "Underwater," "soggy" and "lifeless" were the words used to describe the sound.

This is very disappointing. Were these cut from the analog masters? The "EQ'd by Gavin Lurssen...cut by Ron McMaster" credit makes us wonder. But regardless of the source for the cut, the question is, how did Lurssen make his EQ choices, and why did all of the feedback indicate he dulled them down?

We're looking for answers.
