Great for you, John, Enjoy your records all over again!!!!!!!!!
As the guy in the photo above, let me expand on my brief 'its wonderful' comment. Setup is the easiest I've ever seen in a turntable - just a few minutes and it was done. It actually took me longer to argue with the family over who gets the turntable than it did to set it up (we compromised - it's in the living room so we all can enjoy it).
The sound is solid and authoritative with a neutral balanced character. While the Ortofon cartrige is a good performer, I suspect a cartrige upgrade would improve the sound still more. The sound is good enough though, that I won't be upgrading soon.
In my day job as a failure analysis engineer, I am trained to find the design or construction flaws in any product I look at. This one doesn't seem to have any. The table and tonearm are of a simple design (simple is better in my book), and constructed of quality materials. The workmanship is excellent throughout. This is a table I will have for many years and probably hand down to my son eventually.
I haven't played with the Fono Mini phono stage yet (my gear all has built in phono stages) although I have taken a look inside (hey - I can't help myself). Like the turntable it is simply designed and solidly built. I plan to use it to rip a few albums to my computer this weekend.
My thanks to Analog Planet for both.
I know you will enjoy it let us know how the ripping goes. You can just upgrade the Stylus and you will enjoy better tracking and sound. Check out www.lpgear.com for the replacement Ortofon stylus if that is a consideration.
Congradulations on winning the Rega, they make the best budget turntable for the money for sure, agreed pretty simple setup. One comment, I noticed what you have the turntable setting on. All turntables bennefit hugely by what they are sitting on, as all turntables are prone to feedback from sound vibrations getting back to the turntable especially from vibrations from sound waves hitting surfaces. Regas will especially bennefit from a good stand. If you have a raised foundation strongly consider a wall mount stand. If its a slab then a good solid stand with spiked feet is highly recommended. The type of stand and its material is highly debateable, but I like my turntables sitting on a thick block of Maple.
Enjoy
