Last April, the iconic, innovative and internationally renowned force in avant-garde music The Art Ensemble of Chicago released their 50th anniversary celebratory album We Are On The Edge. Erased Tapes just issued two vinyl editions of this release, one a double LP studio session featuring a newly assembled group of musicians performing new versions of works spanning the past 50 years, some never before recorded, plus new compositions. The second set is a 4 LP special edition that also includes a live set recorded at Ann Arbor, MIchigan's Edgefest, the annual experimental jazz and creative new music festival.

How many times has the Blue Note label risen from the ashes over its 80 year history? It's been revived and resurrected more than a few times by various owners (not counting founders Alfred Lion and Max Margulis), the first of which was Liberty Records in 1965, which In turn was bought out in 1969 by United Artists Records. In 1979 EMI bought United Artists and put Blue Note out to pasture. Say what?

Hard to believe 50 years have passed (well maybe not that hard to believe), but here we are (well, most of us anyway!). On Thursday, August 15th, theaters nationwide will bring back to movie theaters for the first time since it first opened, March, 1970. However, this will be the 3 hours and 44 minute "Director's Cut" version never before screened in theaters (there will be a single, short intermission).
In my earlier review of Tyler, the Creator’s magnum opus IGOR, I note that Jack White plays with a less distorted tone than usual the guitar solo on album closer “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. This information comes from Tyler’s Apple Music album release concert and remains the “official” word on the subject (the album credits make no mention of White, even though Tyler announced White’s musical presence on the LP two days after its release).
It looks like the 50th anniversary of Woodstock concert is off, but Craft Recordings celebrates anyway with the release on August 2nd,, finally of Live At Woodstock CCR's late Sunday evening performance at the original Woodstock, 1969.
