I wonder if the RSD Last Waltz vinyl is the same pressings that Rhino was selling several years ago?
Rhino Announces Record Store Day Limited Edition Releases (Revised With New Information)
The mono edition is certainly interesting, especially for those (few) familiar with the expansive stereo version, but what we really need is a great stereo AAA reissue.
There are many 7" limited edition singles probably not of much interest to analogplanet readers but other LPs include The Cure's Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me on double red vinyl limited to 3500 copies ($32.98) a Grateful Dead compilation Rare Cuts & Oddities 1966 a double LP set limited to 6600 copies ($34.98) and The Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die pressed on double cracker vinyl and limited to 3000 copies ($29.98).
Chris Bellman cut Song Cycle and The Last Waltz from the analog master tapes. In fact, I've been told that Van Dyke Parks himself was present at the Song Cycle mastering session.

Michael, I hope this is NOT the same pressing as the one from several years ago. I sent my copy to you and we agreed it was dreadful. Perhaps you could ask Rhino about this.
Michael, have you reviewed the 6-album set? Worth it? What is the best available recording of The Last Waltz?

Because Record Store Day releases are exclusive (or are supposed to be exclusive) to independent record retailers, mostly of the brick and mortar type. I think...
Sure. Good luck! I do believe Soundstage Direct does get some of these titles, so you might want to check in with them closer to RSD (April 20th).
Michael,
Do you know if the new mono edition of Song Cycle is AAA?
I saw Van Dyke perform in Detroit last year... rare and wonderful!
Some LP's are being released in "very limited" runs. Can someone tell me why a major artist would release only 500 copies of an LP on Record Store Day? There's virtually no chance of getting one!
Good Newswill surely get it

I am glad that they have set up another move in helping to get the ball rolling with the Rhinos. An excellent thought that would really put smiles to the faces of people. - Mallory Fleming
