TMZ Reports Joni Mitchell in Coma, Unresponsive (Updated)

The website TMZ reported today that Joni Mitchell is in a coma and unresponsive ("with no immediate prospects for getting better").

A close friend has files papers to obtain a conservatorship.

This just in from her website:

"Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts."

Alas, probably is at least partially true. Publicists are not bound to tell the truth.

A short sound bite straight from the horses mouth would settle this, but don't hold your breath

Anybody worth their salt here is not treating Joni like a Kardashian. We all recognize her contribution to the integrity of real music and her artistry gift. We recognize she is one of the greats. What have the Kardashians contributed to society?......Nothing but garbage.

This is a good post and the right spot for it. My wife came and told me Joni was in a coma last night. I didn't look much further into the story. When I came to Analogplanet today to see if anything new was posted I saw this update. It's great news.

One just can't trust the media at all. I got the report while reading a Businessweek article! (popped up on me). It seems that a lot of "trusted" news outlets and such get stuff from the hacks like TMZ.
I was saddened at first, but then a few hours later started seeing all the outlets redacting the story. Good news indeed.
While Joni no longer plays or writes music, she is one of the greats who has added to and maintains the integrity of real music.

Tmz has a court document with a doctor stating Ms. Mitchell remains unconscious. It may be that tabloid journalism is made up of "hacks", but in this case, they look to be actually doing research rather than passing on rumours as many mainstream media simply report. What evidence is their that the statement on Joni''s website actually true? It in direct conflict with a doctor and legal document that states otherwise.
