Analogplanet Radio’s "Under the Influence" Show Now Available For Streaming

This week's Analogplanet radio show can be streamed here or on the WFDU.fm website. The concept was to play a classical music excerpt followed by a rock, jazz or pop tune that was influenced (or in some cases lifted) by that track.

As you'll hear, the concept immediately got hijacked but afterwards, the music stayed true to the idea until the very end when there was extra time but no more concept true tunes so I played part of a track from Frogtown Anthony Wilson's extraordinary new album. Enjoy "Under the Influence"!

Remember lots of Emerson Lake and Palmer is riffing on classical stuff. And Yes used to open their concerts with a bit of Rite of Spring. Premiata Forneria Marconi's William Tell Overture (should have been called "Blazing Accordions"). Maybe some King Crimson too, though nothing immediately comes to mind... Too much prog rock in my youth.

Great to see Jethro Tull's take on Bourrée in your list!

swiped the entire melody for the most sappy "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" and "All By Myself" from Rachmaninoff's symphonies. In fact, he wound up having to share his royalties with the Russian's estate.

"Joybringer" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band (Gustav Holst is given partial writing credit)

"Horizons" from Genesis' Foxtrot. I'm betting Steve Hackett listened to Bach's Cello Concerto No. 1 a few times before cutting this song.
