All of these songs feature either a xylophone or a Vibraphone or a Vibraharp or a Marimba—all except the first four which pay tribute to recently deceased musicians we've known and loved. So many have passed this year starting with David Bowie last January. That partially explains the hammer "out".

Thanks MF for turning me on to 'After the Riot' Nashville All Stars @ Axpona - great record! But looking at the 1st Lionel Hampton title made me think of Tim Buckley's wondrous Buzzin' Fly from 'happy sad' w/David Friedman on vibes. And maybe you didn't want too much Gary Burton but how about some Tim Hardin from '3' w/Mike Manieri on vibes? Getting a bit more obscure, Philly-based Khan Jamal would have been nice or even more obscure, Yaya Diallo's 1980 'Nangape' LP (what, no balafons?) But IMO your real miss was the great Walt Dickerson: maybe God Bless the Child from 'To My Queen'? or from 'Impressions of a Patch of Blue' with Sun Ra as sideman (!)? 1977 duet session with Richard Davis on Steeplechase?
