Mastering Engineer Bob Ludwig Recipient of dCS's First Legends Award

At a ceremony in New York City during the 147th AES (Audio Engineering Society) Convention, mastering legend Bob Ludwig was given the first dCS Legends Awards. The company, best know for its line of SACD player/DACs and streaming audio DACs, has already announced upcoming recipients, many of whom were at the event to congratulate Ludwig.

Future recipients include: Chuck Ainlay, Ed Cherney, Tony Faulkner, Frank Filipetti, James Guthrie, Leslie Ann Jones, George Massenburg, John Newton, Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt and Mark Wilder. Pictured in the photo from left to right are: Elliot Scheiner, Chuck Ainlay, Bob Ludwig, John Newton, Leslie Ann Jones, Frank Filipetti, Mark Wilder, George Massenburg, and dCS Managing Director, David Steven.

All of these recipients will receive a limited edition, commemorative version of dCS’ acclaimed Bartók Headphone DAC (Digital Audio Converter).

Bob Ludwig needs to introduction to AnalogPlanet readers so I'll skip Bob's many accomplishments and instead invite you to listen to any record with Bob's "RL Sterling" scribe mark/stamp, especially his truly legendary Led Zepellin II LP if you're lucky enough to own one. Otherwise, try Gaucho, or any of dozens and probably hundreds of LPs, CDs, SACDs and hi-res files, many of which are surely in your collection.

I wouldn't miss this ceremony for anything, so I changed my return flight from "Making Vinyl, Hollywood" to a 6:15 A.M. flight out of LAX that required me to awake at 3:30 A.M. It was worth it! I congratulated Bob in person and he immediately asked how my young protege Malachi was doing. Now there's an apprenticeship I hope eventually happens!

He deserves it!

Ever since I was a kid in the 80's, seeing his name on LP liner notes was familiar and reassuring.

A good-sound stamp of approval if there ever was one!
