Blue Note Revises “Tone Poet” Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series Schedule

Pandemic-related closures temporarily put Blue Note’s “Tone Poet” series production on hold, but the series resumes on August 28th with the release of three titles: vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson’s first session The Kicker (1963), alto saxophonist Jackie McLean’s It’s Time (1964) and tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson’s The State of the Tenor: Live at the Village Vanguard, Volume 1 (1965).

Of course, the Joe Harley curated “Tone Poet” series launched in 2019 continues with all-analog, 180g audiophile vinyl releases pressed at RTI in Camarillo, California and packaged in deluxe Stoughton Printing “old styl” Gatefold Tip-On jackets. Harley handpicks enduring titles from from the Blue Note catalog along with underrated classics, modern era standouts and albums from other labels under the Blue Note umbrella including Pacific Jazz, United Artists and Solid State.

If volume 2 is any indicator, "Joe Henderson – The State of the Tenor: Live at the Village Vanguard, Volume 1" will be most welcome in my home.

I have v.2 of this, and it's excellent. This title, as well as the upcoming v.1, was recorded digitally. Regardless, as Michael Fremer says, who cares if it's from digital or analog tape if it sounds great, which it does. Ordinarily I'm an analog guy, but I heartily recommend these titles.

I didn't know these albums were sourced from digital. As you said it doesn't matter. When music sounds this good it's just not an issue, at least for me.

To me the Vol 1 orig release seemed a little more 3 dimensional and closer to live than the Tone Poet Vol 2 so it'll be interesting to see how Tone Poet Vol 1 compares to the original Vol 1 release.

They are all good releases, but there are a couple of reissues that stand out because they are very rare to find a good copy.
• - Herbie Hancock – My Point of View (Blue Note, 1963)
• - Wayne Shorter – Etcetera (Blue Note, 1965)
Thanks Blue Note
