JFH.

Jon F..king Hassell.

That’s what (guitarist) Gregg Arreguin and I called him. I realize as I write this that it sounds like we were always annoyed with him – and we certainly were, at times – but actually we said it in order to build him up, to encourage him. As in, “Hey! You’re Jon Fucking Hassell! You don’t have to put up with this shit!”

Thirty years on, it’s even more true. The coverage of his death is worldwide – so many languages, so many obituaries. The reach of his voice, his music, his trumpet, is across generations and without borders, and I think fully as he intended. He did it.

How would you like your All Things Must Pass?. Of course there's the original 3 LP set produced by George Harrison (who died in 2001 at age 58) and Phil Spector, which if you have on an original British Apple pressing sounds very good. The American pressing? Meh.

AnalogPlanet readers chose their favorite from among three short digitized excerpts from Paul Simon's album Still Crazy After All These Years. One was an original pressing, the second a Record Store Day release and the third, Mobile Fidelity's "One-Step" 45rpm extravaganza. Which was which was of course not revealed there but is now.
