As I predicted in my review of the $10,000+ Moon Evolution Series Phono Preamplifier, good things happen to those who wait for the company to trickle the technology down to less expensive units.

VAC designer Kevin Hayes took me through his two box "Statement" tubed phono preamp. It has four single-ended and balanced inputs, adjustable gain of 52,70 and 76dB, capacitive and resistive loading, mono switch, zero feedback, transformer inputs for MC, and an outboard massive power supply.

The $15,500 German AMG turntable/tonearm combo imported to America by Musical Surroundings is a deceptively simple and compact product but to really understand its unique, high tech engineering requires a look inside.

Acrylic and I don't get along well in the turntable/tonearm world so I remain skeptical about the sonic performance of this $1575 Scheu Cantus acrylic tonearm but of course I reserve judgement until I get to hear it.

The venerable Record Doctor record cleaning machine, which resembles a Nitty Gritty minus a record spinning motor has been out of production for a few years now but thanks to the vinyl resurrection (it's gone way beyond a revival don't you think?) it's being resuscitated with a hoped for price of around $200.

Working with an industrial designer adept at things white prefaced in the letter "i" Music Hall has come up with this cool white ikura turntable built to spec by the Pro-Ject folks that build other Music Hall turntables. Cost is $900 with carbon fiber tonearm. Very smart looking.

That calling the goings on in Roy Hall's Music Hall room "the real world" is indicative of just how bizarre this business can be. Along with shots of single-malt, Hall and his partner Leland Leard demoed some new reasonably priced analog gear including this $599 Creek MM/MC phono preamp that's dip-switch configurable and given Mike Creek's experience and track record, probably sounds very fine.

Vladimir Lamm took me through his new 3 box LP 1 Signature phono preamplifier. Each channel has its own power supply. The all-tube design uses transformers for the first MC stage. There are three inputs: two MC, one MM.

Zanden introduced its new Model 120 prototype phono preamp, the company's first solid-state design. The estimated price is $7500. I have no more details to report other than that it sounded good playing a Buddy Guy lacquer I brought to the show.
