Air Tight introduced the newest member of its cartridge line-up, the PC-1S. The new model features even lower internal impedance than in previous models, down to 2.1 ohms.
I thought you might find interesting the AMG arm's unique bearing. At the very top you can see two cylindrical vertical posts. The protrusions atop them fit into the top of the tonearm housing and are secured to it.
The $15,500 German AMG turntable/tonearm combo imported to America by Musical Surroundings is a deceptively simple and compact product but to really understand its unique, high tech engineering requires a look inside.
Analogue Productions and Acoustic Sounds chief Chad Kassem showed me an early edition of the deluxe Doors box he's readying for production. The box will hold the entire set of double 45rpm LPs mastered by Doug Sax from the original master tapes and pressed at Kassem's Quality Record Productions.
Analogue Productions will soon reissue on double LP and SACD Roger Waters' epic, didactic Amused to Death, first released in 1992 in a very limited double LP edition. Anyone looking to purchase an original of the very limited first release could not have been amused by the going price of around $300 last time I checked.
Analogue Productions will commence pressing UHQR records this year beginning with two classic Bill Evans titles: Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz For Debby.
UK based Avid introduced at CES the new Ingenium line of turntables. The base price for the machined aluminum plinthed 'table is $1300. So equipped, it comes with an MDF platter and bearing used on the Avid Diva. $2300 with Project 9cc carbon fiber arm. There's a $3000 version with an SME M2-9 inch arm as well as a more expensive range that uses the Volvere's bearing and aluminum platter.
That calling the goings on in Roy Hall's Music Hall room "the real world" is indicative of just how bizarre this business can be. Along with shots of single-malt, Hall and his partner Leland Leard demoed some new reasonably priced analog gear including this $599 Creek MM/MC phono preamp that's dip-switch configurable and given Mike Creek's experience and track record, probably sounds very fine.
Basis Audio's A.J. Conti introduced at CES his new, impressive-looking Superarm 9 tonearm. The massive, sleek tonearm is a dual pivot design too clever to describe with words here.
Using the experience gained designing a direct drive motor for the Brinkmann Oasis and Bardo, Helmut Brinkmann is now building his own motors for use with the belt drive models in the line. I thought you'd like to see it.
