Dan Hicks R.I.P.

In honor of Dan Hicks, here's "Where's the Money" from the album of the same name, released on Blue Thumb Records (BTS 29) in 1971. Recorded with The Lickettes, live at The Troubadour, February, 1971. This record has been played countless times since 1971 so obviously, it's all worn out and noisy (etc.). Not. Video shot at 1080i with GoPro Hero3.

this album and 'strikin it rich" are classic albums by any standards.

I've been a big fan of Hicks & The Licks since the early 70's. I didn't know of his passing. How about some details please! I think I'll start my next listening session with "I Scare Myself". I think it's one of his best songs.

Dan Hicks, a singer, songwriter and bandleader who attracted a devoted following with music that was defiantly unfashionable, proudly eccentric and foot-tappingly catchy, died on Saturday at his home in Mill Valley, Calif. He was 74. The cause was liver cancer, said his wife, Clare.

...to see both iterations of his band at the Trident in San Francisco. (Hicks went to S.F. State, my alma mater. Given all the things going on there at that time it's a miracle I graduated.) For those who may not know, the 2nd group recorded the three Blue Thumb albums, Where's the Money, Striking It Rich, and Last Train to Hicksville. Then he broke up the band. (There was a reunion in 1992 for a taping on Austin City Limits.)

For those who may not Know, Dan Hicks' first band, The Charlatans, are having an album of their 1965-1966 material released later this month on Ace Records It's called The Limit Of The Marvelous. (https://acerecords.co.uk/the-limit-of-the-marvelous). Hope it will be available stateside!

I bought this one based on a recommendation you made when writing for TAS many years ago Michael. I acquired one or two more copies since then. It was fairly easy to find here in the Bay Area back then. Sad that Dan Hicks is no longer with us.

Highly recommend 1994's "Dan Hicks & The Acoustic Warriors", recorded live at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA. "Hell, I'd Go"!

Keep up the good work.
I have 1 question: do you use a software to de-noise or de-click (in lack of better words) the files b4 uploading them?
They are so quiet and static free!
I ask this because I did some needle drops in 24/96 on Mac and the software I use offers the option to cancel the pops and clicks and it seems to be working fine!

Nice tune. I used to jog to the "Where's the Money?" album during med school...that steady shuffle rhythm was good for keeping pace. We saw Dan Hicks at Dosey Doe (a very intimate venue) in The Woodlands 2 years ago...as funny and entertaining as ever!
