Analogplanet Radio's "Warner Brothers/Reprise Tribute" Show Now Available For Streaming Here and on WFDU.fm

Analogplanet Radio's show today pays tribute to Warner Brothers/Reprise Records. The "golden age" of the merged labels was in the late '60s/early 1970s when it had the hippest lineup, hippest promotions and advertising and everything was "golden", though the WB label had gone green!

Everything is transferred from vinyl of course. I think this is among the best Analogplanet Radio shows yet so I hope you enjoy listening to it.

In the middle of the show I got an email alert about a Steve Hoffman Forum thread about me. I read some of what was written about me during the show. You can read it here. Here's the set list:

Great show Michael. Thank you for playing Green Manalishi, that is one of my favorite early Fleetwood Mac jams. It was also covered by the Melvins in epic fashion on their album The Maggot, totally worth a listen. I think you are right that it never made it onto a Fleetwood Mac album proper but it is included on Fleetwood Macs Greatest Hits CBS ‎– S 69011, a UK compilation from 1971. Anyway, it's one of Peter Green's best tracks if you ask me.

"Green Manalishi" was also included on "The Chain," a box set released in 1992 to commemorate Fleetwood Mac's 25th anniversary. As far as I know, it's out of print, but a used record store or Amazon might have a copy.

The golden age of Warner/Reprise really ended in 1994, when label head Mo Ostin was forced out by changes at parent Time Warner. Just consider some of its 80s roster: Prince, Madonna, Hüsker Dü, the Replacements, Paul Simon, Los Lobos, Talking Heads, Van Halen, REM... Maybe this should be called "Part 1"?

Michael, you mentioned the names of the Electric Prunes and wondered "where are they now?" I used to work with the brother of their drummer, Preston Ritter. Unfortunately, Preston passed away in March 2015 at age 65.

How about a show using only cuts that have appeared on the Warner "Loss Leaders" promotional LP's?

Those records were pressed kinda thin, but you could use them as a playlist.

That stereo sampler was played frequently around the house, when I was a kid.
