Joan Armatrading  Back on From Intervention

Intervention's long delayed release of Joan Armatrading's eponymously titled third album is now set to ship this May. It's now available for pre-order on the Intervention Records website.

First released in 1975 on A&M (SP-4588), the Glyn John produced and engineered album was her "breakout" record after the first two failed to register with the buying public. It features "Down to Zero", "Somebody Who Loves You", "Love and Affection" and other songs of loss and vulnerability. The production and sound are both superb.

The reissue was cut using a 1/2" from analog safety copy tape by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, plated and pressed at RTI and features a film-laminated Stoughton Press "Tip-on" jacket. It's audiophile demo-disc quality (and has been for more than 40 years). Maybe now, finally you'll hear it in the audio show halls and rooms!

My first two LPs, Stealers Wheel and Stealers Wheel's Ferguslie Park had fine original UK LPs cut by two GREAT engineers, George Peckham and Robert Ludwig, respectively. So we're used to challenges! The transparency of modern 100% analog cutting systems like Kevin Gray's (plus Kevin's skills!) have delivered new references of every LP we've made together. This will be no exception!

How much better would it be if they used the Master instead of a safety-copy....??? And Kevin's mastering chain would shine that much more.

I don't think anyone, no matter how golden their ears, would want to make a living being brown-bagged and identifying a master vs. a well-made safety copy like the ones I've been fortunate to use and master from.

IR's Flying Burrito Bros' Gilded Palace of Sin and Gene Clark White Light LPs that made Michael's Top 100 All-Analog LP reissues deliver best-ever sound and were made from beautiful safety copies as those are the best sources still available ...

So I have this LP on Nimbus Supercut, the ones offered by mail order in Hi-Fi Today magazine, do I still need this release?
Have been a long time Joan fan - luckily to have seen her live about 4 times, in small venues - one of the industry’s true veterans.
