Triplanar debuted a 12" version of its popular tonearm at CES 2013. Key to the design is a new damped carbon fiber tube that maintains the effective mass of the 9" model.
The 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show begins Tuesday morning. I'm flying out tomorrow morning and will begin tweeting @analogplanet and blogging on this site as soon as there's stuff to report. Honestly, I still haven't posted everything worth noting from RMAF back in October and I fully intend to get those posts online here too but first, CES 2013!
VAC designer Kevin Hayes took me through his two box "Statement" tubed phono preamp. It has four single-ended and balanced inputs, adjustable gain of 52,70 and 76dB, capacitive and resistive loading, mono switch, zero feedback, transformer inputs for MC, and an outboard massive power supply.
Also in the Audio Arts room and making its North American debut was the van den Hul The Grail SB phono preamplifier, that I'm sure contributed to the superb sound produced by the system.
VTL's new 2.5 phono preamp is chock full of good parts and built beautifully within a solid chassis. It's a hybrid design with a J-FET solid state MC input and a tubed MM section.
Zanden introduced its new Model 120 prototype phono preamp, the company's first solid-state design. The estimated price is $7500. I have no more details to report other than that it sounded good playing a Buddy Guy lacquer I brought to the show.
